OMG! This has been an incredible project to work on and we are extremely honored to have produced these custom replica jackets for the Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corps Alumni. From sourcing materials and manufacturing, to recreating the jacket logo and customary Canadian red maple leaf “patch,” this was an undertaking that has been incredibly satisfying and rewarding for us here at Box 5 Apparel.

After a similar project we embroidered for alumni of the Magic of Orlando Drum & Bugle Corps, we connected with Grant Thomas, an alum from Dutch Boy as they had been searching high and low to do the same and replicate their corps jackets. The trouble was, they hadn’t been able to find a jacket shop that carried the style jacket with the colors from the originals. Quite honestly, we couldn’t find any suppliers who carried them either! Which is when we decided to dig deeper and go straight to the source, partnering with a jacket manufacturer that was willing to custom spec the jackets out for us while we coordinated the sales and designs for the project. 

The result?...

Amazingly accurate Dutch Boy jackets in all their glory are currently being produced for the alumni who have long desired to get one to replace ones that have gone missing, become too worn out, or otherwise no longer fit. Beyond the physical jackets, we look forward to seeing the reinvigorated pride of the Dutch Boy Alumni who can proudly wear these pieces of shared history and continue to exhibit the legacy of a great drum corps.

  

Something as simple as a corps jacket seemingly has a way of uniting us, even if we’re not wearing the same one. The history, memories, and stories that are wrapped up in the tradition of corps jackets come rushing back just seeing a picture of one, and a renewed sense of pride when we wear it or pass it down to the next generation. May we always appreciate the rich tradition of earning and wearing corps jackets and what they represent in our performing arts, and life journey.

Custom manufactured using Black “flight-satin” material, just like the originals, with a White under collar, and Kasha lined.
